History - StJ 250

St James Church is one of the oldest Church of England Churches in Liverpool, built in 1775. It was closed in 1972 due to a dwindling congregation and then reopened again as St James in the City in 2009.

On 4th-6th June 2025, we celebrated the building's 250th anniversary and welcomed back people not only from St James in the City's past but also before the Church was closed in 1972.

The weekend looked like a Church timeline exhibition full of pictures and words recounting the journey of the building, including future plans and most importantly what God did during those 250 years! You can view this electronically here.

The Friday evening was an evening of moving poetry, music performances
and hearing from the recent Slavery Truth Project. Saturday evening, we had a celebration evening with food, music, returning friends and a sharing of memories. Sunday, we had celebration services - with of course Pizza! Thank you to everyone who was involved in the weekend.

As we look ahead, we want this building to be a place where all people, but especially young people meet Jesus and grow in faith for the next 250 years!

Plans are in process to continue renovations onto to the next phase, which of course requires time and money. If you would like to contribute to the continued renovation of this building, do get in touch with us at info@stj.org.uk or you can give online at stj.org.uk/give
