Pakistan
In response to the recent flooding and devistation in Pakistan, members of St james in the City were pleased to be able to send a donation to help with relief.
New Wine
An enjoyable time was had for some members from St James in the City joined approximately 6,000 delegates at the 2010 New Wine Christian Conference at Newark. They experienced refreshing worship, bible teaching and seminars as well as having the time to spend with family and friends.
Parish Picnic August 8th

We had a great day out on Sunday 8th. A lovely walk to Hilbre Island at low tide was followed by games, a service on the beach and an amazing BBQ back at Sue and Simons house.
St James in the City Gift Day
The gift Day raised almost £13,000 from the congregation … a great result!
St James in the City Church Picnic at Dunham Massey
A brilliant afternoon of fun. A real family atmosphere – 41 people – from under 12 months to over seventy enjoyed playing games including rounders, football and volleyball, visiting the deer park, feeding the ducks and of course enjoying a picnic lunch. Some people did end up a bit wet however, due to the rain towards the end but the sunshine at the beginning made up for that.

Our team lead a parish weekend for Christ Church, Southport at Blaithwaite in the Lakes 28-30th May.
As word of St James in the city spreads across Liverpool and the Universities, our ever-growing congregation is continuing to fill our ever-expanding marquee. Neil must have had a vision from God this week, as his decision to extend the tent for Sunday’s service was met with our largest congregation to date: 48 adults and 7 children (55 total!).
Tania Bright spoke to and challenged us about our Relationships, a student Joe led the prayers and our worship team took a more guitar-led slant to lead us in praise. The talk is followed by a Relationships evening at the Chaplain’s this week, after a student lasagna night (contact Elli for details about this on elli_ward@hotmail.com).
It’s awesome to see our church growing every week, as we establish ourselves in Liverpool and begin to set up our new children’s work and train young leaders.
2009 saw many new and exciting things happen for St James: we had Aggie’s dedication, Jessie’s baptism, James’s commissioning and Neil’s institution; we moved permanently from the Cathedral concert room into St James church and bought our marquee to meet in weekly; we saw the church grow to its current size of around 40 adults and 8 children; 3 members went on pilgrimage in Spain and another 2 went on a mission trip to Bolivia; our Purpose Groups grew and developed; and right at the end of 2009, we had our first St James Christmas Day service.
After the service last Sunday – much to the disdain of the students who wanted to go and eat Marg’s pizza and drink tea – everyone helped to take down the old marquee and erect our brand new one…
Our Purpose Group [official] launch meeting on Wednesday 30 September was an evening with the aim for all our current Church members to join a group. Basically Purpose Groups are our response to St James vision. We want to make a difference to our communities, whether this be local (such as Youth Work and ‘Guerrilla Greening’) or national and global (for example Fairtrade), and we run these groups to have an impact on these communities and issues.
We started 3 of the groups last year, but as a result of the evening we now have around 5, and are open to new ideas if anyone has a passion and wants to share it. Click on the link above to read more about our groups.
St James in the city is a student-focussed church, and this semester we have seen a few new students join which is so exciting. We’d like to invite any students – whether freshers or not! – to come along to a service or get in touch with Neil (click here for details).
We will be meeting in St James church on Sunday 13 September (not the concert room in the Cathedral) at the usual time of 4.00pm.
We have erected a very large tent in St James church to allow us to meet there more regularly on Sundays. Hopefully the tent will be easier to heat than the whole church.
So, on Sunday 13th Sept we will experiment with meeting in the tent in the church!
The address of St James church is: Corner of Upper Parliments Street and Park Road, Liverpool L8 1UR
