One of the best ways to get involved at St James and to meet new people is to join one of our serving teams. Every aspect of running our Sunday service is important and fun!
We love to give everyone who walks through the door of St James a warm welcome. Are you good with names and keen to make people feel at home? Join our welcome team.
Car Park Stewarding
We don't have a car park at St James, so our congregation park on the road-side. We always ensure that someone is keeping a look-out to give people peace of mind as they enjoy the service. Do you look good in a high-visibility jacket? Car park stewarding could be the role for you.
After our 4pm service, we go across the road to St James' House for tea & coffee and a bite to eat. This means that a few people have to slip out of the service a little early and stay behind a little later. Are you nifty with a kettle and a table cloth? Join our refreshments team.
At St James, we're privileged to have a lot of young families worshipping with us. We provide childrens groups during the afternoon service and are often in need of an extra pair of hands. Do you have a passion for seeing children grow in relationship with Jesus? Are you prepared to have a lot of fun in the process? Join our kids team as a leader or helper.
We love to worship God with music and singing at St James, and we're blessed to have skilled musicians leading us on Sundays. Do you feel called to serve God with your musical gifting? Speak to our worship pastor Debs about getting involved.
It's always great when you can hear what the person at the front of church is saying. In order to achieve this, and other special effects, we have a skilled team of sound desk operators who help us get our talks and music sounding crystal clear. If you're a sound technician or would like to learn the ropes, sign up!
Laptop & Projection
One thing we're famous for at St James is our Video News - a short film showing our latest news and notices. We also use liturgy from time to time, and like to read our song lyrics from the screen. There is always someone clicking the mouse to ensure that this goes (moderately) smoothly. Do you have good computer skills? Come and help us out with this valuable ministry.
St James Church is surrounded by quite extensive grounds, regularly used by the public. We try our best to keep the grass looking tidy, litter to a minimum and the pathway clear and safe. Volunteers help us do this! (No gardening experience required).
