Alongside Sundays, the primary way to be part of St James in the City is to join a Purpose Group. We encourage everyone in the Church to be part of a Purpose Group.
Purpose Groups are collections of people with a shared focus or passion. For example our overseas students group have a passion to see overseas students welcomed and supported.
Usually groups meet weekly or fortnightly in the home of a church member. Most groups have a mixture of friendship, food, worship, bible study and prayer; as well as a focus on their purpose.
Feel free to contact a purpose group leader to find out when they are next meeting. Try a few groups out and find your place at St James'.

Basics Course
In a recent survey over ¾ of the population said that they believed in God, and over half said they prayed. The fact is that many people today have a spiritual dimension to their life but can’t find the volume control to turn it up. A young lady said to Neil recently, “I believe in God, and I pray to him quite often, but I don’t know who I am praying to. I don’t really know what he is like.”
At St James we are keen to offer an open and relaxed environment where, without pressure, people can think through the claims of Jesus. On a regular basis we run a six week enquirers course which last for just over an hour. Its not boring with long faces but great fun, soul enlarging and can be life changing. Over the duration of the course it’s like receiving the six pieces of a jigsaw. At the end of the course you can fit them together to get a clear picture of Jesus, and then it’s up to you how you respond.
f you would like to know more about the course or are interested in coming along, please give Neil a call on 0151 7088559 or drop him an email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
School of Theology
For full details of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology please look at the Liverpool Cathedral website http://www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk/family-and-learning/school-of-theology.aspx.
The aim of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology is to provide high quality theological training once a month. We aim to provide teaching that is accessible and stimulating.
The aim is not to give head knowledge, but to equip people for mission and evangelism. The sessions are more than basic discipleship, and aim to provoke thought and push people to further love God with all of their minds.

Community is about interacting, looking out for each other and supporting each other. As a community of people we want to see our members integrated, active and inspired.
At St James, we are structured around a network of purpose groups which are small groups of people with a shared focus. We run courses to support people through different stages of life and faith and provide resources to stimulate our brains and hearts.
Purpose Groups:
Purpose Groups are small groups of people who have a shared focus or Passion.
Basics:
Basics is a six week course which allows people to ask the big questions and find out about the basics of the Christian Faith.
Values:
Values are 5 sessions looking at each of our values: love, live, grow, serve and build. This course will help you decide if St James is the right home for you.
We are passionate about kids! Our aim is to teach our children that God loves them and have fun doing it.
During the Sunday afternoon service we have 3 groups that provide a safe, caring and fun environment for our children.
