Purpose:

Caring for Overseas Students

What:

We aim to make contact with international students during their time in Liverpool and beyond- from Fresher’s, through Maters to relocation. We aim to be a tangible expression of Christ to international students of any faith and none, to encourage an exploration of our faith leading to an encounter and lasting relationship with Christ. We do this by connecting and building friendship, helping especially with conversational English, offering practical help, sharing cultural experiences and having fun.

Who:

We welcome all overseas students and anyone with an interest and heart for offering support to those from other cultures away from home

When:

We meet most Wednesday evenings @ 7.15

Where:

One of the best ways to feel at home at St James and get to know people is to come to our Sunday service and get stuck in!

4pm Service

We meet at 4pm on Sunday afternoons at St James Church on Upper Parliament Street. [Find us: Map]

Worship: Starting with a gathering song of praise, our afternoon service comprises sung worship, liturgy & intercession, a talk and a time of prayer ministry & response. Once a month we celebrate Holy Communion together.

Teaching: Everyone can catch our latest Sunday talks by visiting our website's podcast page in the resources tab.

STJ Kids: If you have children then your little ones can enjoy our family worship in the main service and join in with the STJ Kids programme which has groups for all ages.

After the service we pop over to St. James' House for tea & coffee and a bite to eat. We warmly invite you to join us!

Basics Course

In a recent survey over ¾ of the population said that they believed in God, and over half said they prayed. The fact is that many people today have a spiritual dimension to their life but can’t find the volume control to turn it up. A young lady said to Neil recently, “I believe in God, and I pray to him quite often, but I don’t know who I am praying to. I don’t really know what he is like.”

At St James we are keen to offer an open and relaxed environment where, without pressure, people can think through the claims of Jesus. On a regular basis we run a six week enquirers course which last for just over an hour. Its not boring with long faces but great fun, soul enlarging and can be life changing. Over the duration of the course it’s like receiving the six pieces of a jigsaw. At the end of the course you can fit them together to get a clear picture of Jesus, and then it’s up to you how you respond.

If you would like to know more about the course or are interested in coming along, please give Neil a call on 0151 7088559 or drop him an email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Alpha

We also run regular Alpha courses. These are held on a monday evening.

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. No pressure. No follow up. No charge.

Alpha runs in churches, bars, coffee shops and homes all around the globe. Typically alpha has around ten sessions and includes food, a short talk and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts. Alpha really is for anyone who's curious. The talks are designed to encourage debate and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, honest and informal enviroment.

School of Theology

For full details of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology please look at the Liverpool Cathedral website

The aim of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology is to provide high quality theological training once a month. We aim to provide teaching that is accessible and stimulating.

The aim is not to give head knowledge, but to equip people for mission and evangelism. The sessions are more than basic discipleship, and aim to provoke thought and push people to further love God with all of their minds.
