Alongside Sundays, the primary way to be part of St James in the City is to join a Purpose Group. We encourage everyone in the Church to be part of a Purpose Group. Purpose Groups are collections of people with a shared focus or passion. For example our overseas students group has a passion to see overseas students welcomed and supported. Usually groups meet weekly or fortnightly in the home of a church member. Most groups have a mixture of friendship, food, worship, bible study and prayer; as well as a focus on their purpose. Feel free to contact a purpose group leader to find out when they are next meeting. Try a few groups out and find your place at St James'.

Basics Course

In a recent survey over ¾ of the population said that they believed in God, and over half said they prayed. The fact is that many people today have a spiritual dimension to their life but can’t find the volume control to turn it up. A young lady said to Neil recently, “I believe in God, and I pray to him quite often, but I don’t know who I am praying to. I don’t really know what he is like.”

At St James we are keen to offer an open and relaxed environment where, without pressure, people can think through the claims of Jesus. On a regular basis we run a six week enquirers course which last for just over an hour. Its not boring with long faces but great fun, soul enlarging and can be life changing. Over the duration of the course it’s like receiving the six pieces of a jigsaw. At the end of the course you can fit them together to get a clear picture of Jesus, and then it’s up to you how you respond.

If you would like to know more about the course or are interested in coming along, please give Neil a call on 0151 7088559 or drop him an email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Alpha

We also run regular Alpha courses. These are held on a monday evening.

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. No pressure. No follow up. No charge.

Alpha runs in churches, bars, coffee shops and homes all around the globe. Typically alpha has around ten sessions and includes food, a short talk and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts. Alpha really is for anyone who's curious. The talks are designed to encourage debate and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, honest and informal enviroment.

School of Theology

For full details of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology please look at the Liverpool Cathedral website

The aim of the Liverpool Cathedral School of Theology is to provide high quality theological training once a month. We aim to provide teaching that is accessible and stimulating.

The aim is not to give head knowledge, but to equip people for mission and evangelism. The sessions are more than basic discipleship, and aim to provoke thought and push people to further love God with all of their minds.

Community is about interacting, looking out for each other and supporting each other. As a community of people we want to see our members integrated, active and inspired.

At St James, we are structured around a network of purpose groups which are small groups of people with a shared focus. We run courses to support people through different stages of life and faith and provide resources to stimulate our brains and hearts.

Purpose Groups:

Purpose Groups are small groups of people who have a shared focus or Passion.

Alpha:

Values:

Values are 5 sessions looking at each of our values: love, live, grow, serve and build. This course will help you decide if St James is the right home for you.

We are passionate about kids! Our aim is to teach our children that God loves them and have fun doing it.

During the Sunday afternoon service we have 3 groups that provide a safe, caring and fun environment for our children.

The STJ creche provides a stimulating environment for our 0-3s. We use a variety of toys, activities, free play and of course a snack time. Lots for your little ones to enjoy.

The work of St James in the City relies on the generosity and financial support of our members and friends. We are determined to establish a church that will reach out to the city of Liverpool and beyond, and you can be a part of it.

Regular giving

If you are able, we would like you to give regularly to St James in the City. This helps us to plan for the future and dream even bigger! The Bible teaches that having thought through your own circumstances your giving should be both regular and generous. Each person should give what they have decided in their heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Our preferred way

You can set up a monthly gift to go directly out of your bank by standing order. To do this please call 0151 705 2191 and we can send you all the information you will need.

Single donations

If you would like to give a one off donation, we have a number of ways you can do this.

Sunday – We do not have a collection plate during the service because we do not want to ask visitors to give. However, each week there is a collection box at the back of church. Place cash or cheque in here (Cheques made payable to St James in the City)

Send cheque- Via the post (made payable to St James in the City) to the church office for the attention of Kirsty Fazakerley

St James in the City,
St James House,
20 St James Road,
Liverpool L1 7BY

Gift Aid

With every gift you give, whether it is a one off gift or a regular monthly gift, if you are a taxpayer, we have the opportunity to claim gift aid tax relief on your donation. This means that for every pound you give, we can get an extra 25 pence.

giftaid

Please help us to do this by filling in a gift aid declaration form and return to the Church office or place it in the offering box. Imagine what a difference that could make; and it does not cost you a thing!
