A new church:
In July 2007 Neil and Margaret Short moved to Liverpool city centre with the brief of launching a new city centre church to serve the growing student population, and the many new city dwellers in the dockland and city centre developments.
The team has now grown and they have a passion to make a real difference to the communities in which they operate.
The name:
The name ‘St James in the city’ (which to be honest is quite a mouth full) was chosen as we plan to be based at St James church (the Neon rabbit church!). The building is currently derelict and in need of a lot of love (and money) to restore it for use by the church and community.
St James is a landmark building with a varied history, which includes both having great social impact as well as being involved in the slave trade. This project is an opportunity to reverse the injustice of the slave trade that was so closely connected with St James’ in the past. We plan to harness some of the material and intellectual wealth of the city and to become a beacon for peace and justice in Liverpool and across the world.
